High Court upholds acquittal of alleged match-fixer Rajendar Prasad Rai

Mr N. Sreenivasan, S.C. and Mr Jason Lim of Straits Law Practice LLC have successfully defended an alleged match-fixer, Mr Rajendar Prasad Rai, at the appeal stage. Mr Rai was accused of conspiring with his nephew to fix six international football friendly matches, and faced six charges under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

Straits Law Practice LLC was appointed after the first week of Mr Rai’s trial, and managed to secure an acquittal for him on July 2017 after a long trial (spanning 35 days) in the District Court. The Prosecution appealed against the entire decision of the District Judge. On 3 April 2018, the Prosecution’s appeal was dismissed by Justice Hoo Sheau Peng.
