Bala graduated from the University of Wolverhampton, UK in 1996 and went on to be called as Barrister-at-Law (Lincoln’s Inn) in 1997.
He was called to the Singapore Bar on 14 April 1999. Bala is an active litigator with wide exposure in all areas of litigation.
Bala is a State Assigned Lawyer for capital cases in the Supreme Court. He is also a volunteer lawyer with the Criminal Legal Aid Scheme in the Subordinate Courts.
As part of his social obligations, Bala regularly conducts legal clinics at the Movement for the Intellectually Disabled of Singapore (MINDS, SIA). In addition, he has set up legal clinic at Nanyang Community Club, Jurong and has been conducting the legal clinic there since 2002.
Bala has an avid interest in long distance running and takes part in races regularly.
