After a successful charity auction for the Yellow Ribbon Project at Straits Law Practice’s client cocktail event on 25 July 2014, the firm continued to render their support for the cause at this year’s Yellow Ribbon Prison Run.
Eight of the firm’s staff pledged their support through the 10km Competitive Run and the 6km Fun Run.
Abigail Dawes, an associate at Straits Law Practice, believes that initiatives like the Yellow Ribbon Project is important to fight the stigma surrounding ex-offenders and to promote trust in second chances.
“I believe that for many in our society, a second chance is all that is needed to give them the strength, opportunity and encouragement to turn their lives around,” said Abigail, who also volunteers at a girls home.
This year’s Yellow Ribbon Prison Run drew a crowd of about 9000 participants and helped raise $130,000 for ex-offenders. Held around the vicinity of the Changi Prison Complex, the run route took participants past several historical sites in the Changi area including Johore Battery, Changi Chapel Museum and the Old Changi Prison Wall.
